Thirteen years ago, Salkantay Trekking was born with a simple but powerful vision: to create authentic experiences in Cusco, respecting the mountains and the communities that inhabit each route. Since then, every trail we have traveled has been an opportunity to learn, improve, and continue moving forward with humility and commitment.
It has not been an easy road. It has been full of challenges, lessons, and important decisions. But it has also been full of shared achievements, smiles at the summit, and the certainty that we are on the right path. Today we look back with pride and forward with enthusiasm, keeping intact the essence with which we began.

Growth built step by step
The growth of Salkantay Trekking has been natural, sustained, and above all, human.
From those beginnings as a small team, today we celebrate this journey every December 22, with the satisfaction of seeing how our shared effort has transformed into a solid, respected, and constantly evolving company.
We currently operate 14 active routes and offer more than 63 experiences, including multi-day treks, short hikes, and cultural experiences. Each one connects travelers with some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Cusco and Peru, always with a responsible and authentic approach.
This growth is also reflected in our team. Today we have more than 250 local employees, organized into 15 areas of work that make each experience possible: Human Resources, Sales, Customer Service, Commercial, Operations, Marketing and IT, Finance, Accounting, Supervision, Logistics, Product, Tour Guides, Route Chefs, Muleteers, and Drivers. Each area plays an essential role and all work toward the same goal.
Our experience has transcended borders and today reaches key international markets such as The United States, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, and Australia, bringing the name of Cusco to travelers from all over the world.
More than just numbers, this growth represents trust, commitment, and teamwork. It is proof that when people grow together, the project grows too.

More routes, more travelers, more responsibility
Every new traveler who places their trust in us also represents a greater responsibility. That is why we understand that growth is not just about offering more routes, but doing so in a conscious, respectful, and sustainable way.
At Salkantay Trekking, we believe that tourism should be a tool for positive change. Therefore, every decision we make seeks to balance the traveler’s experience with care for the natural environment and the well-being of local communities.
This approach has allowed us to establish ourselves not only as one of the largest trekking companies in Cusco, but also as one of the most committed to the future of responsible and sustainable tourism in Peru.
Recognition that reflects the path we have traveled
Over the years, our constant efforts have been recognized nationally and internationally through various awards. Each year, Salkantay Trekking has been invited to increasingly important events in the tourism sector, where competing and standing out is a true honor.
The World Travel Awards, one of the most prestigious awards in global tourism, have marked a turning point in our history. Being nominated and recognized consistently in national and South American categories is an honor that we deeply value, because it stems from the real experience of those who trust us.
Added to this are TripAdvisor’s Best of the Best awards, based on the real experience of travelers, and the certifications awarded by MINCETUR, which validate our good practices, quality of service, and commitment to sustainable tourism.
Beyond the awards, these recognitions remind us that every detail matters and that the journey is worthwhile.

Growing to give back: social and environmental impact
Salkantay Trekking’s growth has also allowed us to strengthen our social and environmental projects as a way of thanking the communities that welcome us and the nature that surrounds us.
We carry out annual clean-up campaigns on the Salkantay route, taking care of trails and natural spaces regardless of who operates them, because we believe in conservation for future generations.
We promote reforestation actions and work actively and in coordination with SERNANP (National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State) as an authorized and responsible tour operator. This joint work reinforces our commitment to reducing and mitigating environmental impact, protecting Andean ecosystems, and honoring our deep respect for Pachamama.
In addition, we promote initiatives such as Helping Hand, which generate decent local employment and training opportunities in the communities near our routes, strengthening the local economy and creating lasting bonds based on mutual respect.
Projects such as Yuraq Qirucha reflect our commitment to children’s health, promoting dental hygiene among children in communities in Cusco.
And every December, the Salkantay Cup reminds us that sports and solidarity can come together to bring joy to children in low-income communities through chocolate parties and toys that are the result of collective effort.

Thirteen years and a journey that continues
Celebrating 13 years is not just about looking back at what we have achieved, but also reaffirming who we are and where we are going. We continue to move forward with the same spirit, strengthening our family, caring for our mountains, and creating experiences that leave a lasting impression.
Thank you to every traveler, every collaborator, and every community that is part of this story.
