For the seventh consecutive year, Peru is chosen as the best gastronomic destination in the world.
The World Travel Awards were created in 1993 to recognize, reward and celebrate excellence in all sectors of industrial tourism on a global level. These awards have great international prestige and were considered by The Wall Street Journal as the “Oscars of tourism.”
The 2018 edition of the World Travel Awards gave 3 important recognitions to Peru, which indicates that this country continues being a global tourism leader.
Due to its delicious local gastronomy, Peru obtained the award of Best Culinary Destination, beating Argentina, Australia, China and France. It’s important to point out that has been undefeated in this category since 2012.
International tourists and experts in the tourism industry also chose the Historical Sanctuary of Machu Picchu as the Best Touristic Attraction for the second consecutive year. In this edition, Machu Picchu won the award against the Acropolis of Athens in Greece, the tallest building in the world (Burj Khalifa) in Dubai and the Great Wall of China.
Another important recognition is the Best Cultural Destination due to its impressive, living culture, including its important museums and archeological sites.
Since 2009, Peru has received 34 recognitions from this prestigious organization.
The award ceremony took place in the Patio da Galé in Lisbon, Portugal and included the presence of outstanding leaders in public opinion, international media outlets and the most influential businessmen of the sector.
The winners of this competition are chosen through public vote in an online platform of the organization and molded, as well, by tourism professionals, businessmen of the sector and diverse travelers.
