On the trails of Ausangate, we don’t just walk. We listen to stories, share moments, and create bonds that go beyond the journey. That’s why, every December, at Salkantay Trekking, we transform sport into a way of giving thanks. This is how the Salkantay Cup was born, a sports championship that brings together soccer, community, and solidarity in Cusco.

The Salkantay Cup?
The Salkantay Cup is a charity sports championship organized by Salkantay Trekking with two very clear objectives. The first is to promote sports and physical activity as a tool for health, integration, and well-being for the community. The second is to raise funds for the charity chocolate party that reaches children in the Ausangate communities every year.
For us, sport is an excuse to get together, but also a way to give back to the people who live on the same roads we travel with our travelers.

The 2025 Salkantay Cup
The Salkantay Cup grows every year thanks to the people who believe in its purpose. A clear example of this was the 2025 edition, which took place on Saturday, December 13, and brought together 64 teams for an intense day of lightning-fast soccer, marking a new milestone for the event.
The grand final was played between the Manos de la Comunidad and Inti Qosqo teams, in an exciting match that closed the day. The Manos de la Comunidad team was crowned champion, celebrating not only a sporting victory but also a collective achievement with social impact.
Because this year’s registration fee was 250 soles per team, 10,000 soles in prizes were awarded, distributed as follows:
- First place: 7,000 soles
- Second place: 2,000 soles
- Third place: 1,000 soles
During the event, 2,500 solidarity chickens were offered, which sold out completely at an affordable price of 15 soles. Thanks to this and the registration of the teams, the necessary funds were raised for one of the most important actions of the year, La gran chocolatada Salkantay.

A sports championship experienced as a community
Beyond the results, the Salkantay Cup is a sports championship experienced as a family. While the teams competed on the field, families cheered from the stands and shared an atmosphere of joy, music, and unity.
The solidarity chicken barbecue accompanied the entire day. From early in the morning, around 10 a.m., the first chickens were ready, always hot and prepared with dedication. Eating together, talking, and supporting each other became a natural part of the event.

The real goal: The Christmas chocolate party
Thanks to the proceeds from the sports championship, Salkantay Trekking was able to buy 2,500 toys for this year’s charity chocolate party.
The children who benefited belong to the community of Rodeana, located in the Ausangate area, one of the most vulnerable and needy communities in the region. Ausangate is also one of the most important and most traveled routes for our travelers, which reinforces our commitment to the people who live along these roads.
The choice of Rodeana was not accidental. It was a decision made based on proximity, knowledge of the territory, and the desire to give back to those who are part of the environment that brings our routes to life.

A sports championship open to everyone
The Salkantay Cup is a sports championship open to the general public. Anyone who wants to play soccer, have fun, and support a charitable cause can participate.
The dates, registration, and prizes for each edition are announced on Salkantay Trekking’s social media accounts. We invite everyone to join us next year and be part of an experience where sports bring people together and solidarity leaves a lasting impression.
More than tourism: a family that walks and gives back
At Salkantay Trekking, we believe that traveling also implies responsibility. Our routes pass through Andean communities that welcome us every day with respect and hospitality. The Salkantay Cup is a way of giving back to that bond, of caring for the people who are part of our history.
When someone travels with us, they not only discover unique landscapes. They also make it possible for sport to be transformed into hot chocolate, music, and gifts for the children of Ausangate every December.
Because Salkantay Trekking is not just a tourism company.
It is a family that walks, connects, and gives back.
