Therefore, week after the <strong>Day of Compadres<\/strong>, comes the<strong> Day of Comadres<\/strong> where the main protagonists are women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On this day, you can see funny dolls all over town known as \u201c<strong>comadres<\/strong>\u201d which are the size of a real person. They can represent a friend or coworker. In this case, the doll emphasizes strengths and weaknesses in an exaggerated manner. Lately, this festival of <strong>comadres in Cusco <\/strong>has also served to represent politicians and point out their scandals and the corruption of authorities that has been discovered recently in <strong>Peru.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-yoast-seo-table-of-contents yoast-table-of-contents anchor-links\"><ul><li><a href=\"#streamers-pica-pica-and-colored-flour\" data-level=\"2\">1. Streamers, pica-pica and colored flour<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#h-2-two-comadres-together\" data-level=\"2\">2. The comadre in the Fruit section comes from the Amazon<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#h-7-a-great-meeting-of-comadres\" data-level=\"2\">7. A great meeting of comadres<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Giant dolls on the street<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>People hang these dolls on public light posts on street corners or inside of institutions or popular markets. Many times, funny phrases accompany the dolls pointing out&nbsp;the personality of every <strong>comadre in Cusco<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Men are the ones who organize this series of tributes to their female companions: from the making of the dolls to the decoration of the place where they\u2019re hung. Also music and traditional outfits aren\u2019t lacking this day. And neither is the <em>puchero<\/em>, a traditional dish eaten in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/blog\/the-best-day-trips-from-cusco\/\">Cusco<\/a><\/strong> during <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/blog\/the-best-carnivals-in-peru\/\">Carnavales<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salkantay Trekking visited the <em>Ttio<\/em> market in the district of <em>Wanchaq<\/em>&nbsp;to enjoy this traditional festival and the happiness of the comadres in Cusco. We want to share some photos with you so you can see more of this special day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"streamers-pica-pica-and-colored-flour\"><strong>1. Streamers, pica-pica and colored flour<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Some displays of affection in this festival are the colorful accessories used to adorn the comadres in Cusco. The ones of flesh and blood and also the dolls. If you find yourself here, someone may throws colored flour at your face or wraps you up in colorful streamers. Just enjoy it! Two<\/strong><strong> comadres together<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the comadres, of flesh and blood poses proudly for a photo next to her comadre made of cloth. This day usually includes contests between the comadres to decide which doll is the best. Comadre of abundance <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In this photo, we can appreciate a comadre in the Potato and Corn part of the <em>Ttio<\/em> market. She\u2019s adorned with a beautiful outfit from the province of <em>Chumbivilcas<\/em>. Also, he has a baby with a chullo (Peruvian toboggan). Besides this, she seems to be enjoying the <em>puchero <\/em>and diverse alcoholic drinks like beer, wine and frutillada. The mayor of the Wanchaq district participates in the celebration<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s quite normal for politicians and authorities to participate in the traditional celebrations to strengthen their popularity among the people. In this case, the mayor of <em>Wanchaq<\/em>, <em>David Mormontoy<\/em>, surprised the comadres in the <em>Ttio<\/em> market with his visit. The comadre in the Fruit section comes from the Amazon <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This comadre displays the colorful clothing of the <em>Chunchachas<\/em>, a traditional dance in which only the women participate and which represents Amazonian warriors. The main characteristics of this outfit are the adornments made of coins and feathers. Maybe most people know <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/blog\/the-11-best-day-trips-from-cusco-peru\/\">Cusco<\/a><\/strong> region for the Andean culture, but it\u2019s good to remember that a large part of the cusquenian territory is Amazonian.
