The people of Cusco love being happy. For this reason, they start to celebrate Carnivals 2 weeks before its official beginning. <strong>Salkantay Trekking<\/strong> visited the traditional district of <em>San Jer\u00f3nimo<\/em> to learn more about the festival of \u201c<strong>Compadres in Cusco<\/strong>.\u201d In San Jer\u00f3nimo, you\u2019ll find the <em>Vinocanch\u00f3n <\/em>market. This is a place where you can buy healthy food directly from the farmers and producers who come in from the countryside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the day of \u201cCompadres,\u201d women celebrate their male friends by making funny dolls to represent them. Besides that, they use this celebration as an opportunity for social criticism, especially now that <strong>Peru<\/strong> is going through a deep political crisis. However, the most important part is the affection and happiness shared. Later, we\u2019ll celebrate the day of \u201c<strong>Comadres<\/strong>\u201d in which it\u2019s the men who celebrate their female friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To continue, we give you 5 fun photos so you can see a bit more of the festivities of <strong>Compadres in Cusco<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-comadres-and-a-doll-of-alberto-fujimori\"><strong>1. Comadres and a doll of Alberto Fujimori<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most interesting dolls in the <em>Vinocanch\u00f3n<\/em> market was one representing the ex-president of Peru, Alberto Fujimori, in prison. This is one demonstration of how Andean traditions can also serve to help us reflect on the social and political situation of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/blog\/28-very-best-things-to-do-in-peru\/\">Peru<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Comadres-San-Jeronimo-Mercado-Vinocanchon-Carnavales-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"dia de comadres mujeres celebrando\" class=\"wp-image-5438\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-in-vinocanch-on-we-all-recycle\"><strong>2. \u201c<\/strong><strong>In<\/strong><strong> Vinocanch<\/strong><strong>\u00f3n<\/strong><strong>, we all recycle\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pavilion D of the <em>Vinocanch\u00f3n<\/em> market made a doll to celebrate a man named Cirilo Quispe who posed for the photo. The theme of his doll was related to responsible environmental practices: recycling and composting in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Compadres-San-Jeronimo-Mercado-Vinocanchon-Cusco-Carnavales-1024x683-1.jpg\" alt=\"compadres san jeronimo cusco\" class=\"wp-image-5439\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-3-comadre-adorns-a-doll\"><strong>3. Comadre <\/strong><strong>adorns a doll<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For the comadres, it\u2019s very important that their dolls are the most handsome possible so that they\u2019re admired by visitors.
