As in the rest of the world, we all enjoy this time of the year because it brings the whole family together and is a great opportunity to reconnect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In Cusco<\/strong>, archaeological capital of America, and in all&nbsp;<strong>Peru,<\/strong>&nbsp;the main day of&nbsp;<strong>Christmas celebration is December 24th.&nbsp;<\/strong>On this day the whole family gathers to exchange presents, wait together for midnight and&nbsp;<strong>celebrate the birth of the child Manuelito.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/collage-navieno-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"christmas in cusco 2022\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-santurantikuy\">Santurantikuy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/emufec.gob.pe\/santurantikuy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Santurantikuy<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0translated from Quechua language means \u201cbuying and selling of saints\u201d, is an event that takes place every December 24th and in the main square of Cusco. This important event brings together\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com.pe\/ShowUserReviews-g294314-d311932-r371507330-San_Blas-Cusco_Cusco_Region.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">artisans<\/a>\u00a0from all parts of the city and you can find a variety of styles of native\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gob.pe\/institucion\/minam\/noticias\/18843-artesanos-de-comunidad-cusquena-de-cusipata-incrementaran-sus-ventas-gracias-al-apoyo-del-programa-minam-caf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cusquenian art.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to the pandemic, this year the\u00a0<strong>Santurantikuy<\/strong>\u00a0will take place in one of the venues of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.culturacusco.gob.pe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Direcci\u00f3n Desconcentrada de Cultura Cusco<\/strong><\/a>, if you want to make your purchases we recommend wearing comfortable shoes, have cash and have on hand a good plastic poncho for the rain since it always rains these days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Child Manuelito&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;<strong>Santurantikuy<\/strong>, you will be able to observe that one of the main figures is the&nbsp;<strong>child Manuelito<\/strong>, it will be easy to recognize him since he has&nbsp;<strong>curly hair<\/strong>&nbsp;and usually tears run down his cheeks. The child\u2019s name comes from a derivation of the name<strong>&nbsp;Enmanuel&nbsp;<\/strong>which means&nbsp;<strong>\u201cGod with us\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The child Manuelito can be found in different positions: asleep in the manger, sitting on a throne with his Varayoq or crying with a thorn in his foot; this is because just like any other naughty child of his age, he can go out to play and have fun. Every year, Cusquenian families buy their child different clothes and shoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The perfect gift can be found at Santurantikuy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220520113523\/https:\/\/emufec.gob.pe\/santurantikuy\/\">Santurantikuy<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;we can not only buy different ornaments to decorate the nativity scenes that we assemble at home, we can also find different&nbsp;<strong>crafts<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>handicrafts<\/strong>&nbsp;that will become perfect souvenirs to give to the people we appreciate the most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best of local production can be found in the&nbsp;<strong>Santurantikuy<\/strong>. Producers and merchants offer in their stalls:&nbsp;<strong>textiles, jewelry and a variety of musical instruments<\/strong>. We can also find&nbsp;<strong>works made of metal, wood, ceramics, marble, stone and glass.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">We eat a lot at Christmas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>There is no celebration without good food and company<\/strong>. December is the month of \u201cfattening\u201d in all of&nbsp;<strong>Peru<\/strong>&nbsp;because every day we eat rich and tasty food, our breakfasts are accompanied by panettones and chocolate. The night of the 24th we eat a delicious baked turkey and the following days we make side dishes to finish with the leftovers of the previous day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone is nostalgic for the year that is leaving and the meetings at work and among friends are more frequent, which is why in the center of the city there is always a&nbsp;<strong>party<\/strong>&nbsp;and a lot of joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">December 25<sup>th<\/sup><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This day is a<strong>&nbsp;national holiday<\/strong>&nbsp;and there is not much movement in the streets since all the&nbsp;<strong>families<\/strong>&nbsp;are still asleep because they celebrated until very late in the morning.
