You may have some expectations before you arrive, but there will also be a lot of things that surprise and amaze you while you\u2019re here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re here to give you some hints of things that may surprise you during your vacation<\/strong>. From the weird to the wonderful, read on to find out what to expect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

ALPACAS ARE\nEVERYWHERE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s right! These adorable fluffy<\/a><\/strong> little animals <\/strong>can be seen all over the city. They aren\u2019t just up in the hills grazing all day. Many owners will bring them to the town for you to take photos<\/a><\/strong> with them for you to cherish when you go back home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And don\u2019t be surprised if you see someone trying to squeeze one into a taxi either. It happens!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

GUINEA PIGS\nARE FOOD<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Yes, you heard us right. Little nibbles<\/strong> that you kept as a pet when you were a kid is actually eaten here. They are quite the delicacy<\/strong> and are eaten on special occasions<\/strong> and enjoyed by all the family<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are places all over the city and in surrounding villages<\/strong> if you want to give it a try yourself. They actually taste quite nice and come with some tasty sides<\/a><\/strong> to enjoy<\/strong> it even more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

FIREWORKS IN\nTHE DAY<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It can be startling when getting ready for your days tours<\/strong> after breakfast and you hear what sounds like gunshots going off! But, these are probably for a Saint<\/strong> that\u2019s being celebrated by a small village or part of the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They don\u2019t care if they can\u2019t be seen, they\u2019ll set fireworks<\/strong> off at any time of day. So, don\u2019t let them frighten you. It\u2019s just tradition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

INCAN RUINS\nCAN BE FOUND EVERYWHERE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This isn\u2019t really surprising as Cusco<\/a><\/strong> was the capital of the Incan empire<\/strong>. But, it can be quite amazing when you\u2019re walking through the hills on a sunny afternoon and you stumble across some ruins<\/strong> that are over 500 years old. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ll likely be visiting<\/strong> a lot of the well-known sites<\/strong> around town, but if you have the time take a wander into the hills and see if you can find something mystical<\/a><\/strong> that not many of us have seen. It\u2019ll make for some great memories<\/strong> to take home<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A LOT OF\nFOODS TASTE DIFFERENT<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Cusco<\/a><\/strong> has most of the foods<\/strong> that you\u2019ll be used to in your own country. But, sometimes they taste different. The cheese<\/strong> from here is unique<\/strong> in taste and appearance<\/strong>, but it doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s not delicious<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chocolate<\/strong>, as well, isn\u2019t really the same. Now, you can get some excellent quality<\/strong> stuff as this is where chocolate <\/strong>comes from, but don\u2019t expect it to taste like your favorite mile chocolate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few other foods<\/strong> that might surprise<\/strong> you in their flavour<\/strong> include olives<\/strong>, potatoes<\/strong>, and corn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE AMOUNT OF\nPOTATOES AND MAIZE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s no doubt you\u2019ve heard that Peru<\/strong> is home to literally thousands of varieties of potato<\/strong>. And, it\u2019s true. They come in all sorts of shapes<\/strong>, sizes<\/strong>, and even colors<\/strong>! The different textures will amaze<\/strong> you and you\u2019ll see them piled up all over the place in the markets<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maize<\/strong> also comes in a variety of tones. Each one is used in a different way and has a different taste<\/strong>. They even make a drink<\/strong> from purple corn<\/strong> here, which they drink at every opportunity. It\u2019s Chicha Morada<\/strong> and is really delicious<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The best thing you can do is to take it all in and let become a part of this magical new experience<\/strong>. Take photos<\/a><\/strong> to remind you of your time in Cusco<\/strong> and all its little quirks that made it special<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
