On this day, the devoted people come from various parts of Peru and the world, walking from Cusco until they reach the temple of Se\u00f1or de Huanca. Inside the temple, you can see the image of <strong>Jesus Christ<\/strong> painted on stone. The painting is over 300 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Sanctuary of Se\u00f1or de Huanca<\/strong> is found in the province of <strong>Calca<\/strong>, approximately 50 kilometres out of <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/trekking-in-peru\/cusco\/city-tour-cusco-sacred-valley-tour-salkantay-aguas-calientes-machu-picchu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cusco<\/a><\/strong> on the skirt of the sacred mountain <strong>Pachatusan <\/strong>and in the middle of a lot of vegetation. The climate in the area during this period is very warm, which is very inviting to make you want to make the walk through the middle of nature.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/temple-lord-huanca-located-slopes-sacred-pachatusan.jpg\" alt=\"temple-lord-huanca-located-slopes-sacred-pachatusan\" class=\"wp-image-2020\" style=\"width:920px;height:750px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The temple of Se\u00f1or de Huanca is located on the slopes of the sacred Pachatusan. <br>Photo by: @michaelcs_80s<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-get-there\">How to get there<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In Cusco there is a custom to walk from the district of <strong><a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/blog\/5-photos-to-enjoy-the-festivities-of-compadres-in-the-san-jeronimo-district-cusco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">San Jeronimo<\/a><\/strong> until you get to the sanctuary itself. The walk is difficult and takes around 6 to 8 hours. For this reason, if you decide to take this option, you need to take necessary precautions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The other option is to take a bus that leaves from the door of the Coliseo Cerrado or IPD in <strong>Cusco<\/strong> that will take you to the district of San Salvador in a maximum of one and half hours. Photo by: @michaelcs_80s<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-warachikuy\">WARACHIKUY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Warachikuy is an Incan ceremony in which the youngsters had to pass rigorous challenges of value to demonstrate that they were men apt of occupying a place in the administration of Tahuantinsuyo or going to war. Nowadays the young students of the <strong>Glorioso Colegio Nacional de Ciencias<\/strong> (National School) are in charge of performing a display of the rigorous challenges, as well as the traditional dances that are present during the ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This activity takes place on the 15th of September in 2 places. First, it begins in the<strong> Plaza de Armas <\/strong>and after in the esplanade of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/traditional\/cusco\/city-tour-cusco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Sacsayhuaman<\/a><\/strong>. It\u2019s lovely to see the display because it feels like you have travelled back in time to the <strong>age of the Incas<\/strong>, where you just need to let it envelope you with the ritual music and magnificent images that these youngsters provoke.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Youngsters-pass-rigorous-challenges-value-warachikuy-2.jpg\" alt=\"Youngsters-pass-rigorous-challenges-value-warachikuy\" class=\"wp-image-2022\" style=\"width:920px;height:667px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Youngsters pass rigorous challenges of value.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-to-get-there-0\">How to get there<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In these\ntwo options that we present to you, you should keep in mind that to enter the\nesplanade in Sacsayhuaman you do need to have an entrance ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can walk from the<strong> Plaza de Armas<\/strong>, passing by <strong>San Cristobal <\/strong>and after keep walking to the esplanade in<strong> Sacsayhuaman<\/strong>. The walk should take between 45 minutes to an hour.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can take one of the buses that leave from the front of <strong>Garcilaso College<\/strong> that will take you up to <strong>Cristo Blanco<\/strong>, and then you will need to take a short walk.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrekking.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Warachikuy-takes-place-Sacsayhuaman.jpg\" alt=\"Warachikuy-takes-place-Sacsayhuaman\" class=\"wp-image-2023\" style=\"width:920px;height:667px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Warachikuy takes place in Sacsayhuaman.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-november-todos-los-santos-all-saints\">NOVEMBER TODOS LOS SANTOS (ALL SAINTS)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a festival that takes place in many parts of the world, and of course, like always, in <strong>Cusco<\/strong> we have a unique way of celebrating. On the 1st of November we remember the <strong>Day of the Living<\/strong>, and the next day, the <strong>Day of the Dead<\/strong>. A majority of people in <strong>Cusco<\/strong> visit the cemeteries during these days, but in a special way. They take food, drinks, and even music to their dead loved ones. They don\u2019t look on it as a time of sadness, but as an opportunity to remember their loved ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Something that you can enjoy during this period is the gastronomy. On these days you can enjoy some very sweet desserts, the traditional and exquisite plate of <strong>Lechon<\/strong> (piglets accompanied by a tamal and moraya potatoes), and also see something extremely rare, the baptism of the <strong>\u2018Wawa\u2019 <\/strong>breads. Photo by: Municipalidad del Cusco<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-december-santurantikuy\">DECEMBER SANTURANTIKUY<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Christmas<\/strong> is one of the <strong>happiest times<\/strong> of the year, and in <strong>Cusco<\/strong> you can feel the good atmosphere with the strong smell of incense, the aroma of <strong>chocolate<\/strong>, <strong>panetones<\/strong>, and <strong>turkey<\/strong>. But the most special part of this time is that you can see a huge variety of artisan products and traditional objects that have been elaborated by the hands of the artisans of <strong>Cusco <\/strong>and the great fair of <strong>Santurantikuy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This fair takes place in the Plaza de Armas in <strong>Cusco<\/strong> and you will find a variety of precious traditional artisan products like the little \u2018Manuelitos\u2019 that have been made with the face of an angel or animals in all sizes and materials, traditional clothes, silver jewellery, articles for homes with images of <strong>Cusco<\/strong>, and much more.
